Femmes & Thems Photo Meetup August 25th 2024

Hello! We’re Tess and Madeline, the heads behind ‘The Femmes & Thems’ - a chapter of the Central Valley Camera Club that caters towards Women, Femmes, and Members of the LGBTQ+ community. 

Our focus is to provide knowledge, inspire upcoming photographers or those who are curious about photography but not sure if it’s for them. We want to create a safe space to learn, to collab, and to socialize-- but more importantly find an identity within the community. We hope all labels of people can come and spend some time with like minded people where they can maybe teach something to others or learn something from others. Sometimes it’s just an acknowledgement that sets someone on their path as a photographer. Will that be you? 

This ‘Chapter’ of the Central Valley Camera Club will be ran by two individuals that are members of the LGBTQ+ community themselves. You don’t need special gear, or a shoot list booked into the next year to qualify as a photographer. Acceptance, welcoming, and love is the focus and only energy allowed.

We are Central Valley Camera Club, a collective of photographers from here in the Central Valley based out of Fresno, California. What is a photowalk?

You may be wondering, what is a photowalk and why are they important. A photowalk is where photographers meet up with the intended goal of documenting & uplifting each other and the area we occupy. Photography can be at times a solo endeavor where we interact with only a handful of individuals at a time. Photowalks are a great way to talk with individuals with the shared interest of photography. In this car centric world it's easy to zoom past a location daily and not have the time to fully stop and appreciate the small details. Photowalks are also a great opportunity for photographers who are new to the realm of photography to be out and about without the added pressure of being the only one out there trying out a new technique or photographing something new.
